Player Profile: Raest
Where to begin? Let’s start with February 2005. The game was The Matrix Online, the place was Mara Central, a neighborhood known for large scale PvP. Stuff like 30 vs 40 vs 20. Usually we were the underpopulated faction which obviously made things more difficult. Why Raest went with the Machines? I asked him:
MK: Hey dude why did you join the machines back in the day?
Raest: lol. seriously i had not decided when you asked me to join. I was like…”hmm..why not?” and never looked back.
I think that sorta sums it up, he figured “why not?” and has been glued to us ever since! Ok so, why are we doing a special player profile for Raest? Well 2 reasons, he has been with the guild longer then any other active member and he is perhaps one of the quietest members in the guild! Surely he should have rolled a rogue.
So let’s meet Raest!
Where do you live?
Brampton, ON Canada. It’s not NY or Toronto, but it’s considered a city…a small city haha.
Ok because you are so quiet, how come you chose a lock isntead of a rogue?
the lock appeals to me. i did try a rogue waay back. I think i deleted it.
Hehe, what is it about the locks that you like? you’ve stuck with it since classic.

(I don’t know what he’s talking about…we talk about how Fistsoffury made us join Alliance on a PvE server and then left us to go play Horde)
ok dude so what is with the logout vanishing act! (for those that don’t know, Raest says “Goodnight” immediately followed by logging out)
what? i say gnight! lol
and logout .5 seconds later without waiting for the customary “good night!” from everyone!

For some reason I thought it’d be a great idea to ask T to give a brief description of Raest (or Laethe as us old timers remember him) and got this:
MK: if there was one line used to describe laethe what would it be?
Taerin: turn into a jet. bomb the russians. crash into the sun. now i’m dead.
(ok thanks for the Like a Boss quote…but really!)
Taerin: Hawt, doesn’t need but gets the CoS buff to hotness. Really reserved, but caring. He has great taste in books! Also, he needs to use his mic. I think I’ve heard him all of once?
(ok T that wasn’t one line! but now I know Raest is really a ladies man and the whole Lock thing is starting to make sense)
Here’s what I have to say about Raest aka Laethe. The guy hasn’t complained about anything in 5 years. Not because he always thinks things are done the way they should be, but because he doesn’t complain. I’d have to say he keeps a lot of things in perspective and understands his hobby is a game. He does take it serious, however, and rarely ever makes mistakes in raids. I can’t remember the last time he made a mistake. So there is Raest, 5 years into the guild without ever having caused drama, never complains, rarely ever makes mistakes, and is perhaps one of the guilds best kept secrets.
Thank you Raest for 5 years of commitment, hard work and friendship. Looking forward to the 10 year player profile!
